lyrics

Part I:
I am an Exile.
I am a Captive beneath the earth.
Little black beetles surround my body.
I take hold of a little red bird,
and the music of the bird is my comfort.

Part II:
The hill in winter
like the belly of a dark elephant
in the folds
and in places beneath trees
shadows lay down
in the quiet
clouds move across the tops of hills
and drop snow
on the field
becomes white
the sky pink
and the hills
like soft blue mounds of elephant bellies
piled one to the other
like waves on the sea
no heat for my body
no warmth to cover me
and I drift
like snow in circles
across the field
but I was not afraid
the winter took me
I was in the dark and sleeping
a seed on the breath of god
a feather on the breath of god
a seed on the breath of god.
