I wrote this piece after my parents had left Sweden and I'd spent the day crying--deeply grieving my grandmother, my great-great grandmother's unmarked grave, my aging parents. I didn't have eloquent words to articulate what I was feeling, so I simply sang the words "Mama, my mother, my grandmother; Papa, my father, my grandmother (his mother-in Swedish the words for grandmother differentiates between when a grandparent is your mother or father's mother).
